A varied weather week is ahead for Austria, especially with temperatures there are ups and downs. First, the inflowing polar air will be driven away, and on Monday, double-digit highs are expected again everywhere, with southern foehn locally even above 20 degrees.

However, the cold air will make a comeback after a frequently wet Tuesday, including an Italian low, and snow will again be an issue on the northern side of the Alps on Wednesday. At the end of the week, the weather finally calms down, and with lots of sunshine, temperatures move back toward the 20-degree mark.

The weather in detail
On Monday, the sun will assert itself from the west during the day after a mostly cloudy but dry start. However, the clouds are more persistent about East of Linz and Graz, and from the Vienna Woods to the Waldviertel and Weinviertel, even a few drops will fall temporarily.

In the East, moderate to brisk southeast wind freshens, in the predestined valleys of the northern side of the Alps, locally strong south foehn towards evening. Temperatures will rise to 13 to 19, with Föhn locally to just over 20 degrees.

Tuesday starts in the East, still dry with sunny clearings, but quickly it moves to and from the west rain spreads to large parts of the country. Especially from the Lienz Dolomites to the Karawanken, it rains heavily, and occasional thunderstorms and snowfall above 1000 to 1400 m. In the evening and during the night, the snow line will drop in the Northern Alps down to the valleys. In the Danube region, strong westerly winds will freshen up. From northwest to southeast, temperatures will reach 7 to 16 degrees.

On Wednesday, the sun will frequently shine, especially in East Tyrol and Carinthia, but also in the Danube region and the East, it will be visible in the afternoon. From the Bregenzerwald to the Salzkammergut, however, dense clouds will accumulate, and initially, it will snow down to the valleys; during the day, some sleet and snow showers will pass through. In the north and east strong northwest wind, in the valleys south of the main ridge of the Alps north foehn. Highs will range between 3 and 12 degrees.

Thursday will start with local residual clouds and fog patches that will dry. In the morning, the sun is often in the spotlight, and passing veil clouds will only slightly spoil the friendly impression. The wind will shift from northwesterly to southerly directions, blowing weakly to moderately. After a frequently frosty start, the air will warm up to 5 to 13 degrees.

Also, on Friday, it will continue to be spring-like. The sun will shine for long stretches of the day; passing clouds will remain harmless. Generally, the wind will blow briskly from southerly directions in the eastern lowlands. With it, warmer air will continue to be brought in, so the highs will be consistently in the double-digit range between 11 and 20 degrees. According to the current status, this calm and sunny weather should continue over the weekend.
